Fantasy Acting League 2018 – Round Seven

Bit of a quiet round this month. After the heady rush of Infinity War and the hundreds of blockbuster films that followed in its wake, July sees things calm down and re-assess. We still have a handful of blockbuster movies such as the incredible Jurassic World or the latest Pixar, the Incredibles 2, but otherwise, this issue is mainly slower dramas. And not the dramas that rock headlines like we would get nearer to the end of the year. Now, it is time for the dark horses to shine, the actors that may have slipped under the radar. This is hopefully the time when gambles pay off and risk-taking will be awarded. Or perhaps your left-field choice will simply be too left-field to hit home. The next few rounds will tell all.

Round Analysis

A lot of non-movers once again, meaning that other than a middle of the pack ascent, mainly from Movie Reviews 101, whose double-pointer from Josh Brolin carries the team into third place, there isn’t too much disturbance in the ranks. Perhaps the most exciting movement is from What About the Twinkie, who paired Chris Pratt, Brolin and Anya Taylor-Joy together, to score an impressive 15 points. However, being in first place already, this simply saw Kieron widening the gap. Now with his ace in the hole, Brolin, on a well-deserved rest, Kieron will have to hope this strong lead will be enough to stave off the ambitious Cinema Parrot Disco and the rising Movie Reviews 101. Hopefully, he can afford a few non-moving rounds.

Again, there hasn’t been too much outstanding scoring here. Elle Fanning wowed in a small biopic about the author of Frankenstein, the kind of film that many bloggers would have forgotten about when signing up their teams. And Chris Pratt is the big name, his leading role in Jurassic World getting the recognition it deserved. Josh Brolin missed out on a two points for a compliment in Empire’s review of Sicario, but perhaps the magazine have simply run out of things to say about the prominent actor. Either way, the Fantasy Acting League is still all to play for.
