And we’re back. 2016 begins here. The rest of January has been just us treading water until now. WordPress, the internet, life… has simply been wasting time until this Fantasy Acting League started off. We have been split into three categories this year. First, we have the newcomers: the bright and breezy bloggers entering our little fold out of a love of movies and healthy competition. The What About Movie girls, Views from the Sofa – welcome to the game and I hope you find the entertainment you are looking for. However, be careful of the second category of players: the oldies. Those of us that played last year and were humilating by a crushing defeat. This is no longer a game to us. This is a matter of pride. Cinema Parrot Disco has slept properly since last year’s final. Mark Walker talks to himself in foreign tongues. Abbi has turned to a crushed Darth Vader helmet for guidance. Then we have the third category: Mr. Movie. Just Mr. Movie. The winner of 2015, who has suddenly realised that he has become the target of every thought of hatred in the gang. This isn’t just about winning for Mr. Movie. It’s about survival.

Round Analysis
BAM! And the race is on. Right off the bat, Michael Shannon has caused grief for half of the team. With everyone picking him as their MVP, almost everyone has crashed into a mid-table draw, all getting 5 points between them, with a few players breaking away from the stand-off, but failing to gain much distance on their competitiors. It promises an interesting, neck-and-neck year with Michael Shannon being the actor that keeps the race for the title tight until the very end.
There are two shock speedsters I have to comment on. Mr. Movie, the reigning champion, is using the fuel from his 2015 victory to put himself into the lead, before anyone can so much as bat an eyelid. With two great lead performances from Will Smith and Bryan Cranston, Mr. Movie has topped the first round. He might suffer from a case of ‘premature excitement’. Is Cranston going to impress again this year? Can Smith make himself heard in jam-packed ensemble piece, Suicide Squad? However, for right now, he is reaping the prize for thinking outside of the box and not picking Michael Shannon. However, while a victory from the champion might have been predicted, Movie Rob picking up 2nd place, one point from the top. Despite being the tortoise of 2015, Movie Rob is determined to be the hare.
But it is early days. The first round is always a bit of a dull affair. Empire seemed to be very criticial this time around, not really giving many films the justice they probably deserved. I am surprised Casey Affleck wasn’t complimented on at all, meaning his two film run in a single round came across as very underachieving. It seems a little unfair on him, as well as Tilda Swinton and Diane Lane. A few missing points came as a bit of a surprise to me. However, there is still plenty of time left. If you, like me, are still on zero, the race is far from over. We will let Mr. Movie potter about in the lead for the moment, but we will be back! With a vengeance. That’s a promise!!!
Mr. Movie still on a role! Bravo sir. I’m happy with Michael Shannon breaking out the traps so early and I have high hopes for him to continually keep scoring. That said, I’m gutted that so many others had the same thinking as me in choosing him.
So glad it’s begun. Love that Diane Lane has garnered me some points, I love her so much.
I’m happy. Playing the slow game. I know my team have big things coming!
Only time will tell… happy to be part of it 🙂
Thanks for the welcome. This is really exciting. I’m happy to be a part of this even though my primary goal is just to outscore Prudence. Haha!
I love Michael Shannon for getting me a sufficient starting score. But a lot of us picked him so this will be interesting. And joust WOW for Mr. Movie. A good head start for the reigning champion. Good job!
Wow! I didn’t expect such a strong start … Fingers crossed, hopefully I can keep this momentum going 🙂
wow, Can’t believe I started so well. don’t worry guys, I wont let it happen again 🙂
Tnx Luke!
An early start for some, not sure if Teresa Palmer and Chloe Moretz will hold up though. But Michael Shannon, great pick folks. Superman v Batman is still coming too. Ouch. Plus, a nerdy flick I’m anticipating, Midnight Special. Good luck all. Scoring zero points has never been so fun 😉 Thanks for hosting this awesome event, Luke.
I’ve got a bad feeling about this. But also, never tell me the odds.
😡 I will have my vengeance! In this life or the next!
*throws self off cliff, clutching gin bottle*
I am glad to be on the board if nothing else. Is it okay to call me abbiosbiston though? Just because Where the Wild Things Are doesn’t exist anymore 🙂
Okay. It will change as of the next Round.
Luke! Sorry… You’re going to hate me for being a pest once again, but…. Teresa Palmer & Woody Harrelson are both in Triple 9. Supporting roles, then, I guess. 😦 So, is that 5 extra points? I think one or two other people have those actors too. 😉
Wait. 6 points. 🙂
Me again. Lol! Okay – I’m going to be generous and help some others out too. 😉 I only know this because I VERY nearly chose Maika Monroe myself. She’s also in The 5th Wave so she’d get some points for supporting role. Do you hate me, Luke??? *hug* 🙂
Ugh…. I will verify today. 😉
To save re-editing this post, I am going to add the points on the next round. Think of it like points in the bank. Otherwise, half of the teams, who won’t look back, won’t realise where the points have come from and might get lost.
Hehe. Okay, then. (six points! you KNOW I’ll remember…) 😉

How does this all work?To my eyes it looks super-duper complex. Too late to get on board for this season I am guessing.
Yeah, sorry. I will contact you for 2017 if you are still about in eleven months time!
Not planning on dying! Might change my mind though, ya never know! Best luck for the year ahead!
I’m thankful to Miss Mutant for pointing out Maika Monroe in The 5th Wave. At first, I didn’t think that we got any points for supporting roles in 2-star movies, but that’s two points for you, me, and Slip/Through Dan! Hooray!
It will be two points apiece. Two Star Movies don’t get points per se, but the lead would still get three points, supporting cast would get two points. It’s the One Star movies that catch you, because that is minus points
