And we’re back for a new segment on my blog that has so far caused me a lot of abuse in the comment section. I don’t see that changing any time soon. Points-wise, the table is beginning to split. Quite a few bloggers (myself including) are struggling to get points together, while the point-scorers are beginning to make good use of their head-start to get an early win. However, a certain South African isn’t about to go down without a fight…

Round Analysis

Yesterday, Abbi from Where the Wild Things Were was sitting at the bottom of the table, angrily swearing at me in Afrikaans (for those who don’t speak South African, it was largely revolving around horse vaginas). However, in a manner only the fieriest of redheads can manage, Abbi has soared from last place all the way to third. It was a pretty game-changing manoeuvre. Of course, this was all down to her being the only blogger to pin any hopes on Julianne Moore, who had the secret weapon of an OSCAR winning movie. Suddenly any doubts on who should have won that award were banished from her mind. Just to make the prize even sweeter, Julianne Moore also had a supporting role in the Seventh Son. Sure, the movie tanked with a mere two star rating, but it meant that Abbi and Moore picked up an additional two points, making all the difference in the world.

Points missed out on? Well, the other big scorer that no one picked for their teams was Margot Robbie. Again, her movies weren’t really big scorers, but she brought out two of them, Focus and Suite Francaise, which racked her points up to 9. She is the only person that racked an astonishing amount of points. However, if anyone is interested, we have a new bar set for the low-scorers with our first two scores of 1. Mila Kunis bombed with Jupiter Ascending with a poor performance, and then, of course, we have good old Jamie Dornan from 50 Shades of Grey. How come no one picked him?!

Anything else to report? It was a pretty tame month for movies (at least how Empire reviewed them). Some people picked up points here and there (Jennifer Lawrence, Anna Kendrick and Shailene Woodley snuck some little-known movies under the radar), but the only people to really focus on were Cate Blanchett and Jeremy Renner, who shone as the leads in their sadly under-performing films. Then there is of course Channing Tatum, but with Jupiter Ascending, few people were expecting this week to be his big scorer. All of these small points were enough to get most people off of the starting line (Mark and Rob are still twiddling their thumbs in joint last, hoping their team will satisfy with the summer blockbusters), and was especially beneficial to those whose small points are beginning to snowball in larger amounts.

Like Cinema Parrot Disco. Eight points last week, nine this week. If she can keep up this constant stream of points, then it will be quite some time before she is knocked off the top spot. However, with Drew a point from the top and Abbi summoning resolve with a devastating home run, she better hope she hasn’t peaked too early…
