    • No Tom Hanks for Captain Phillips. Personally, I thought he was amazing, whereas Bale was good, but not amazing in American Hustle. No Emma Thompson for Saving Mr. Banks either. You?

      • I’m not surprised by Thompson’s omission – she is very, very good, but I don’t love her as much as some of the other leading females.

        Hanks’ omission is also my biggest surprise. I would have nominated him over Bale or Dern, certainly. (Well. Insofar as I think him the best male actor of the year, whether supporting or leading, I would have nominated him over everyone, I guess.)

        I’m also surprised 12 Years missed Score and Cinematography.

        And that Stories We Tell isn’t a nominated documentary.
