We did it, people! Despite several attempts on my life, many deadlines hampered by hangovers and being associated with What About the Twinkie, I have made it to the one year milestone. It has been a rollercoaster ride and I thought I would post an article to reflect on the year I’ve had and what I have in store for you people.
First off, how was everyone’s Christmas and New Year’s? Hope you all had an amazing time. I barely survived the last three weeks. For my birthday, I had a curdled, Tabasco, death drink and still won a game of darts. For Christmas, my best mate set me on fire for giggles. And for New Year’s, my New Year kiss ended up inviting her alcoholic sister to the bar we were at and started a fight with strangers as soon as she turned up. Post your antics in the comments below and keep them vague, because, personally I think that is so much funnier.
So the Year of the Oracle… I struggle to think about life before this blog. I vaguely remember spending 2012, watching all of these amazing films, seeing more than ever, and struggling to handle my opinions of this film. I had to share them with as many people as possible and many people got annoyed at how I turned a friendly debate about Jason Bourne into a full-blown debate about the Jewish symbolism in Jeremy Renner’s eyebrows. I wrote a couple of articles for the student paper and various film blogs and I was happier. But I wanted more – mainly more control over the types of articles I posted. My Dad mentioned an offhand comment about making my own site and slowly, I began to investigate how to go about this and I stumbled across WordPress.
Mainly, I just enjoyed firing my opinions into the great, big internet and enjoying that someone was taking the time to read through them. It is such a wonderful feeling to know that something you have created is being consumed and enjoyed. The best thing about WordPress was the community that I found. I know everyone says this on their sites, but it really does keep you going. I am unsure if I would have kept at it if it wasn’t for the continual support from you guys. Some of you have been following me from the start like MyReelPOV and MyHorrorOnline, and I really appreciate support from them. Others are newer, but just as appreciated like jjames36 and the Verbal Spew. Of course, the community on my site has boomed ever since the fateful day when Tim the Film Guy mentioned a little something called Shitfest one day, and the rest, as they say, is history.
So today to celebrate the anniversary of my beloved blog, I have a treat in store for you. If you would be so kind as to wait a single hour, my review of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty will be out for you to enjoy, but after that, sometime in the evening, as I have some editing yet to do, I have a video article prepared. No, it’s not another drunk quiz. It’s something else, which I hope you guys will appreciate. As for the rest of the month, I haven’t got too much planned, but I can tell you that I shall be reviewing the brand new Sherlock season, taking a look at an amazing Lara Croft fan film I found in the internet, and of course, I shall be telling you all about the latest Britney Spears album (my friends think I am joking, when I tell them she is my favourite singer ever, which is always an awkward moment).
So here’s to 2014. I hope we make it to the other end of 2015 alive and in one piece.
Lots of love
Luke ‘Talk Dirty to Me’ Abbott
Can’t wait to see the vid.
Plus, I like your hat.
I am actually quarter Irish, so St Patricks Day is always a good time of the year for me haha.
Congrats on your anniversary 😀
Congrats man! Here’s to the year ahead. We have much film reviewing to do 😉
